Prothane’s polyurethane is a firmer bushing than the O.E. rubber. This yields an increase the longevity of the bushing.
There is also a direct improvement in handling performance. Rear axle tracking will become more precise and there will be less tendency for vehicle “wander” on the highway or “kick out” when diving into a corner.
It must be noted that with a firmer bushing there will be a slight increase in NVH (noise, vibration and harshness).
Both the red and black urethane bushings are identical in formula. Historically, red is preferred for racing applications, since a flaw (or crack) in the urethane will be much more visible.
Replacement instructions are simple. Just get the old bushings pressed out and you can then insert the new ones.
