These aftermarket Bilstein 4600 Series Shock Absorbers were originally designed as a performance upgrade for the Trailblazer. I have been successfully selling and installing them on SSRs for about 6 years. The only noticeable variation is that I have had to cut an additional mounting ring into the shock body to lower the spring perch to the correct ride height for the SSR. This does not compromise any of the safety or ride, only that you now have a slightly shorter bump stop on the shock.
They are a direct fit with a really nice ride quality. Although the valving and damping of these units is very similar to the OE shocks, Bilstein Engineering tells me that they have better damping and rebound than the OE units. These also have the most compliant and smooth ride available for the SSR from Bilstein. Customers also report that they ride slightly more firm than the OEM shocks.
I do not recommend using these for installation with any front lowering springs, as you would have to cut the bump stop further to maintain enough suspension travel.
Please note that these are less firm than the “Sport” Bilstein 24-286718 shocks. I recommend these “Touring” shocks as a direct replacement for the OEM shocks if you are looking for the softer ride.
These front shocks fit directly to the SSR, just as they come out of the box, and do not require any modifications or special instructions. As always……. If you are unhappy with these for any reason, just return them and I will be happy to provide a full refund.
✅ An order of “1” will get you a pair of shocks for this price.
⚠️ NOTE: Worn strut mounts can adversely affect a vehicle’s safety and handling so we recommend replacing them with Moog K6702 or specified shock mounts from other manufacturers when replacing your front shocks.
